What is AQUALATES™
AQUALATES™ is a challenging yet highly modifiable aquatic workout based upon Pilates exercises from the mat, reformer, cadillac, chair and barrel repertoires.
Created by Tori Brown and Chimêne
Montivero-Cole, MSPT, AQUALATES™ is
a standalone system of
exercise based upon the same
modern principles and anatomical guidelines of Pilates.
Though many of the exercises are similar
to those practiced in a Pilates training
venue, much of the AQUALATES™ repertoire
has been developed specifically for the aquatic
environment. In addition to an emphasis on
shoulder girdle stabilization and activation
of the core musculature to support a neutral
spine, this 3-D workout challenges balance,
coordination and peripheral strength in all
planes of motion.

The difference between AQUALATES™ and
other aquatic fitness classes is the instructor
knowledge, client education and in the presentation
of each exercise. All AQUALATES™ exercises
are presented and cued in terms of anatomical
function. In this way, we educate participants
to move more efficiently. When we
speak of the “mind/body
connection”, we are speaking muscular awareness
and control.
